Belfast and Ulster University
Belfast has a temperate oceanic climate and lies on an inlet where River Lagan meets the sea. Around 350,000 people live there and, in the recovery from the 1970s downturn, an improved economy is attracting people to the area.
Ulster University is engaged in a multi-year move from the suburban northwest shore to the city’s artistic and cultural precinct, where new courses in architecture, event management, photography, digital animation and more will complement the established curriculum. The campus is close to other educational, retail, commercial, entertainment and service centres, and to the region’s significant hospitals and businesses. In 2021, Ulster University was shortlisted for a Times award for most improved UK student experience. The Business School alone has over 2,000 student placements a year.
Redeveloped university buildings and sites are set to complement the city with publicly accessible thoroughfares and facilities on lower floors and street frontages. That approach is in-line with the Belfast City Deal, which is oriented to integrated housing, commercial and transport planning outcomes and aspirations shared with the university.
