Bergen University

Home to around 300,000 people, Bergen in Norway is on an ocean inlet with a temperate ocean climate that’s slightly chillier than our own. Its economy has a strong focus on maritime businesses, activities and research. Some of the nation’s largest aquaculture companies headquarter there.

Bergen University runs courses across many disciplines and hosts one of Norway’s leading research institutions in marine and climate science. Much of the campus is in the city centre’s hilly Nygård district, close to the docks, businesses and industry activities. Plentiful public transport gives access to the region.

A new energy and technology building called EnTek will be a gateway to the campus, connecting the university and city with a new street that also serves as a meeting point for public functions and events. These developments are occurring in Bergen at a time when the city is engaged in a ‘3 R’ strategy – repurpose, renew, reconnect – to drive sustainable redevelopment.
