Student experience and connection

Why this theme?

At our community panel’s first session, participants were asked the following question: What does a good move by the Uni to the city look like?

As views were shared, a series of topics began to resonate, with twelve in particular rising to the surface. Later, everyone was asked to nominate which three of these topics they felt were most important for the panel to engage with. The top six were confirmed as The Shake Up’s ongoing themes, with student experience and connection being one of them.

What do we mean by student experience and connection?

This theme is all about student life at the university. How do students feel here? What are their relationships with the university, with staff members and each other like? What opportunities do they have? How does the physical environment of the campus affect their interior lives? Do they feel like they belong? Do they feel like they’re part of something bigger than themselves? The community panel is committed to finding answers to questions like these and many more, such as if students are finding value in university activities and services.

Student experience and connection also covers the learning environment, and how students are interacting with the university’s services and supports in order to achieve their best possible learning outcome. By deeply engaging with this theme, our community panel can help make sure that all students can thrive at the university – both in terms of learning outcomes, and their lives in general.

What’s a vital part of the student experience this campus needs to capture?

We welcome all voices and differences of opinion. All comments are reviewed before being posted to ensure the discussion remains respectful and constructive.
